UTC Women Release SoCon Schedule

  • Wednesday, July 11, 2018

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s basketball team will look to return to the top of the Southern Conference standings under first-year head coach Katie Burrows.

“Conference play should be competitive again this season,” Burrow said. “Our tough non-conference schedule will have prepared us for January. I’m looking forward to an exciting year.”

Burrows has been a part of nine Southern Conference Championship teams in her 12 years with Chattanooga. She helped the Mocs to four straight titles as a player from 2000-04 and then five more as an assistant to both Wes Moore and Jim Foster.

Chattanooga will open the SoCon season at home with a three-game run that includes instate rival East Tennessee State on January 12 followed by Wofford and Furman the next week.

That will be followed by back-to-back road games beginning with defending league champion Mercer on January 24 and Samford two days later. The first half of the season will wrap up at home against Western Carolina on January 31 and UNCG on February 2.

The second half of the season will see the Mocs on the road in five out of the seven games beginning in Johnson City on Feb. 9 followed by road games against the Paladins in Greenville, S.C., on Valentine’s Day and the Terriers in Spartanburg, S.C., two days later.

The Mocs only two home games in the second half will be against Samford on February 21 in the Roundhouse followed by a Senior Day tilt against the Bears on the 23rd.

The regular season will draw to a close with a road matchup against UNCG on February 28 and the season-finale at Western Carolina on March 2nd in Cullowhee, N.C.

Mercer swept the Southern Conference last season, becoming the only SoCon team other than Chattanooga to accomplish the feat. The Mocs have posted five undefeated SoCon seasons. East Tennessee placed second in the standings with UTC finishing third.

Chattanooga swept Wofford, UNCG, Western Carolina and Samford in the regular season and lost twice to the Bears, Bucs and Paladins. UTC, missing two of its top three scorers, fell to the Spartans in double-overtime in the first round of the Southern Conference Tournament.

Gets your seat now for another exciting season of Mocs basketball at the McKenzie Arena. Tickets for the 2018-19 season are on sale now at the arena box office and online at GoMocs.com.
