Maryville's Jason Welshan was savage to his competition in his new Savage racing chassis at the Crossville Speedway on Friday.

Justin Ogle and Welshan (a multi-track champion around East Tennessee) along with Competition Racing Equipment have built their new speed machine to race around the South this year and they pocketed the $2,000 prize for the "Independence 40" race.

Welshan and Anthony White started together on the front row with White digging into the lead on the opening lap.
Welshan slipped back to third behind Josh Henry as the field sorted itself out. Henry would inherit the lead from White who busted a tire on lap 12 ending the early leader's night.

Welshan would begin hounding Henry for the lead and on lap 23 the #29 "Hidden Hollow Motorsports, PPM, Ronald Sexton Construction, Hoosier Tire South, C&J Trucking, Murphy's Bobcat Service, Talent Drywall, Bodies by Skinny, Stealth Racing Carburetors, Schoenfeld Headers, Renegade Fuel" sponsored machine would make the winning pass.

Henry would finish third with the "feel-good" story of the night as Randy "The Dream" Weaver making his return to racing action after a two-year medical-induced retirement from the sport, would finish second to Welshan. Team Savage (#TeamSavage29) heads to Boyd's Speedway in Chattanooga for action Saturday night.
