Rochelle Bernice Burton Kidd transitioned from time to eternity on July 3, 2018. 
 
She was funeralized at the Rising Star Baptist Church in Sylacauga, Alabama on July 7, 2018. 
 
Born Aug. 4, 1934, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Limmie (Alma) Burton, and growing up in Fortwood neighborhood (Lincoln Park area) of Chattanooga, Rochelle developed early a love for learning at East 5th Street School. After graduating from Howard High School, class of 1952, she attended Tennessee State A&I College in Nashville. Later, she would transfer to Alabama A&M University from which she received a BS Degree in Elementary Education.
 
Rochelle met and married the late Alvin Kidd of Sylacauga, Al. Moving to his hometown she was employed as a teacher in the elementary school.  There she used her acquired learning, her godly intuition and her sense of urgency to teach, reach improve, impact, inspire and encourage each student to be his/her best self.
 
Upon retiring from the classroom, Rochelle continued to give of herself as a volunteer.  Her service rendered to her church and community did not go unnoticed.  She was the recipient of many awards, commendations and recognitions. Her greatest joy was serving God through serving God’s people.
 
She leaves to cherish her memory, a loving daughter, Vanessa (Charles) Drawns, Mobile, Al.; three step-children, Katherine (Billy) Cain, Kelvin (Chilade) Kidd, Dallas, Tx., Calvin Malone, Washington, DC; two sisters, Mary Alice Jordan, Chattanooga, and Doris Burton, Kansas City, Ks.; two brothers, Archie Burton and Jimmy Harris, both of Chattanooga; five grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends from her early childhood and teenage years at the Gethsemane Bapist Church of Chattanooga and her loving neighbors and church family of Rising Star Baptist Church of Sylacauga, Al. 
 
Leaving her little corner of the world better than she found it, Rochelle now “rest from her labor and her works do follow her”.
