Joe Rubin Laster, Jr., 79, of Chattanooga, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2018 in a health care facility.
He spent his early years in Bakewell, Tn., and attended Booker T. Washington School. He was a hard-working and dedicated employee having spent many years at Turnbull where he was supervisor and over 20 years at Hertz Rental, having retired in January 2018 due to illness.
He was preceded in death most recently by his mother, Frances W Laster Spring in April 2018; father, Joe Laster; grandparents, Marie Talford and Reuben Williams; daughters, Ruby Gail and Laquita Laster; sister, Gwendolyn Laster and brother, Charles V. Laster.
He is survived by two sons, Reverend Maurice Laster and Jeffrey Laster; daughter, Debra L (Eddie) Cousin; stepdaughters, Denise and Tammy Grady; one brother, Richard (Kimberly) Laster; five sisters, Barbara Ragland, Gloria Bulloch, Linder McFarland, Jeanette (Wilson) Meadows, Jackie Carter; special cousins, Jeweldean Locke, Vivian Mack, Thelma Bailey, Mary (Becky) Laster; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and longtime friend, Mary Evans.
The body will lie in state at beginning at noon on Friday, Aug. 24, at John P Franklin Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. in the chapel.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25, in the chapel with the Reverend Maurice Laster delivering the eulogy. Interment will be at Highland Cemetery.
