TDOT To Begin Drainage Improvement Project On I-24 West In Lookout Valley

  • Monday, September 10, 2018

Tennessee Department of Transportation contract crews soon will begin a project to address drainage issues at the I-24 West ramps at Exit 174 to U.S. 41 (Cummings Highway) in the Lookout Valley community in Chattanooga.  The area frequently floods during heavy rainfall, requiring the interstate ramps and U.S. 41 to be closed to traffic until the water recedes.

Talley Construction Co., LLC of Rossville is the contractor for the $484,000 project, which is slated for completion on or before Nov. 15.

The contractor will install construction signs on Wednesday and begin work afterwards.  During the project, the contractor will perform excavation work on the interstate ramps and on Cummings Highway, after which they will install drainage structures.  At least one lane in each direction will remain open at all times during the work.  Currently the contractor plans on working six days a week, but they will work more if necessary.

Drivers who must travel through this area are encouraged to be alert to changing conditions in the work zone and be mindful of the crews working in the area.
