On September 17, 1787, America’s Founding Fathers signed the U.S. Constitution, recognizing all who are born in the United States or by naturalization, have become citizens. On Monday, Sept. 17, Chattanooga State Community College will celebrate Constitution Day with a full day of events that will include a voter registration drive, Constitution trivia and the documentary screening of “13th,” before culminating in a Constitution panel discussion with special guests Congressman Chuck Fleischmann and Dr. Danielle Mitchell.

As an Honors American Government project approved by political science Assistant Professor Dr. Elizabeth Norell, and organized by students Jim Fry and Justin Abercrombie, the topic of the discussion will be “The Role of the Constitution Today: How Can We Cross the Political Divide?” beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Erlanger Health Science Center, room 1087. The event will be a moderated discussion. Audience members will be given note cards to write down their questions before they are given to the guest speakers.

Chattanooga State’s Constitution Day events are co-sponsored by the Social and Behavioral Science Division, Media Services, Student Life and the Student Government Association.
