VALDOSTA, Ga. – #4-ranked Dalton State got off to a hot start posting the only sub-300 round of the day and holds a 21-stroke lead after the first round of the Thomas University Fall Invitational at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta on Monday.
The Lady Roadrunners shot 299 (+11), with #13 Southeastern (Fla.) and Johnson & Wales (Fla.) sharing second with 320 (+32). Thomas (Ga.) is in fourth with 322 (+34), while #23 Coastal Georgia at 333 (+45) rounds out the top 5.
Combined, the group of seven ladies all placed in the top 15 after Round 1 with freshman Sydney Hermann taking the overall lead.
Playing as an individual, Hermann fired a 73 (+1) and holds a one shot lead.
Nipping on her heals is All-American Cameron Daniel. Daniel led the team contingent with a 74 (+2) and is tied with Hannah Revell of Webber (Fla.) for second.
In a logjam for fourth is All-American Isabel Rijos, redshirt senior Haejin Choe, and sophomore Katelyn Skiffen after rounds of 75 (+3). Combined with Brianna Farrell of Southeastern (Fla.) and Anna Asphamn of Thomas (Ga.) they complete the top 5.
In ninth, and playing as an individual, is freshman Megan Donahue with a 76 (+4). All-American Hannah Gasaway rounds out scoring for the Lady Roadrunners with an 80 (+8) and is tied for 13th as all seven Lady Birds finished in the top 15 overall for the day.
#4 Dalton State will look to polish off another team victory when they tee it up tomorrow, October 8 for the final round of the Thomas University Fall Invitational at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta.
