Mary Ellen Ellison Henderson, 91, of Kimball, Tennessee, died on Tuesday, November 26, 2019, following an extended illness.

 

The daughter of the late Glen L. and Lillie Mae Barnes Ellison, she started working as a hairdresser in 1955 and continued her work for 53 1/2 years. She was married to Luther "Doc" Henderson, a long-time barber and inspector for the State of Tennessee, for almost 40 years. Mary Ellen and Doc worked together throughout the community and particularly enjoyed volunteering as poll workers during election time and with the blood bank when it came to the area.

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Luther “Doc” Henderson; son, Neal Crosby Henderson; brother, Luther Ellison; and son-in-law, Robert S. “Butch” Hill, Jr.

 

She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Hill of Dunlap, Tennessee; son, Johnsie (Alyne) Henderson of Medina, Tennessee; daughter-in-law, Beverly Keith Henderson of Knoxville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Jason Hill of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Rebecca Henderson of Knoxville, Tennessee, Adam (Tessie) Henderson of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Daniel (Lauren) Henderson of Atlanta, Georgia, Rachel (Roger) Wiggins of Medina, Tennessee, and Jennifer Henderson Shoulders of Houston, Texas; five great-grandchildren and two more on the way.

 

A graveside funeral service will be held at Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens in Jasper, Tn., on Sunday, Dec. 1, at 2 p.m. Central time with Billy Watkins officiating. There will be no visitation prior to the service.
