D'Marcus White
The Chattanooga man who allegedly gunned down a UTC student in February will stand before a jury in May 2020. D’marcus White, 20, allegedly shot and killed Mohammad Sharifi when the victim met White in order to sell the defendant an Xbox.
With the victim’s family in attendance, Judge Tom Greenholtz set the trial date for May 5. March 13 was determined as the deadline to notify the court of any motions the defense or prosecution plan to file.
March 24 was determined to be a pre-trial motion date, which would be the next time White would be seen in court. If White and his attorneys or the state and victims wished to work out some sort of plea agreement, the deadline for that would be April 24.
On Feb.19, White met with the UTC student in order to buy a video game console. The two had previously been in contact via Facebook messenger concerning the Xbox. When the two met, White shot the victim, took the console, and then fled the scene, police said.
Hours after the shooting, White posted a link to a local news story about the shooting, and included laughing emojis to it, it was stated. When apprehended by the police, he admitted to planning to rob the victim and to shooting him in the back.
While in General Sessions Court, White’s bond was set at $750,000.
