Margo Koby had a career-high double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Cosette Kirsch scored a game-high 23 points as the Covenant women's basketball team routed Toccoa Falls, 81-47, in the Scots' season opener on Saturday afternoon.
Covenant (1-0) had three players scored in double figures in the contest and never trailed.
Koby set career-highs with her 16 points and 11 rebounds. Hannah Monday also registered a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds to go along with five assists.
Kirsch made her collegiate debut with 23 points on 8-of-9 shooting, including three 3-pointers.
Ruthie Moore and Michaela Price each had nine points in their debuts, with Moore adding five assists and six rebounds. Alex Spence had six points on a pair of 3-pointers off the bench and Elissa Moore dished out three assists. Riley Wagaman added four points and seven boards.
Covenant shot 70 percent (7-for-10) in the first period and continued to add to its lead throughout the game. The Scots led by as many as 36 late in the fourth period.
The Scots started the game on a 14-0 run, highlighted by a pair of Price 3-pointers, and held Toccoa Falls (2-5) scoreless until just over a minute remaining in the first quarter. Covenant led 19-7 at the end of the first. The lead grew to 36-11 after a Kirsch 3-pointer with 6:20 left in the second and the Scots went into the break up 44-22.
It was more of the same over the final two quarters as Covenant extended the lead further. A Price 3-pointer late in the fourth gave Covenant its largest lead of the day at 81-45.
It was the 18th all-time meeting between the programs and Covenant improved to 18-0 against the Toccoa Falls, with all wins coming by double-digits.
For the game, Covenant shot an even 50 percent (31-of-62) with 10 3-pointers and 9-for-13 at the free throw line. The Scots also held a 42-23 edge in rebounding.
Ariel Jackson led Toccoa Falls with 13 points as the hosts shot just 26.7 percent (16-for-60) from the field.
Covenant will compete in the Richard Dardenne Memorial Classic, hosted by Birmingham Southern, on Nov. 15-16. The Scots face Millsaps on Nov. 15 at 8 p.m. CST (9 p.m. EST).
