Police said a man was run over by his own truck outside a business on Hixson Pike Wednesday afternoon. Darrell Brown, 35, later died, and Charles Luke Jackson, 25, was charged with criminal homicide.

A witness said he and Mr. Brown were sitting in Mr. Brown's vehicle in front of Sweet Melissa's Billiards when their vehicle was struck by a red Nissan pickup being pushed by Jackson.

He said an argument ensued and Jackson approached Mr. Brown and began throwing punches at him.

He said Mr. Brown, who was unarmed, then began walking away from the situation.

The witness said Jackson then jumped in the Brown vehicle.  The witness said he got in front of it, but dived out of the way when Jackson began driving it forward.

He said Jackson then ran over Mr. Brown, not stopping until he struck some moving vehicles at the site.

The victim was taken to Erlanger Hospital, where he later died.

Jackson left the scene and was arrested later.

Police said the incident was captured on several nearby surveillance cameras and that backed up the account given by the witness.

Why Does Walden Need A Large Grocery Store? - And Response (2)

The town of Walden has a population of 2,118 people. What do those citizens need with a 49,000 square foot grocery store? Or with 10,000 square feet of commercial office space? Or a fuel island? Or increased tractor trailer traffic with proportional damage to the road up and down the mountain? Or multiple traffic lights at the “W” Road intersection and at Timesville Road? When ... Roy Exum: This Ain’t Gonna’ Work

When Governor Bill Lee talks about education, or the lack of it, I’ll listen. He’s the guy who, when he found his newly-hired employees were wanting, his thriving Lee Company in Nashville started its own vocational school and paid them to learn. The investment was brilliant and the outcome obvious. But now comes the bigger gamble, vouchers for some and, for others, charter schools ... (click for more)

Dan Fleser: Offensive Line Is Pruitt Priority

KNOXVILLE – There was a distinct echo in Jeremy Pruitt’s comments during the final week of Tennessee’s spring football practice. On April 9, the Vols’ head coach said the following about UT’s offensive line: “We have to be more consistent. We have to play with a little better pad level. We have to become better finishers.” Four days later, following the Orange & White ... (click for more)

Sale Creek Wins Soggy Yellow Jacket Classic

It was a miserable afternoon to be sitting at Lookout Valley Elementary School’s O’Mary-Conard Field for the last three games of the annual Yellow Jacket Classic softball tournament, but Sale Creek coach Clifford Kirk was just happy for his Sale Creek girls to have a chance to play. It was a worthwhile weekend for the Lady Panthers as they won their pool by winning all three ... (click for more)
