Baylor defeated Summit, 3-0, Saturday to win the Lady Trojans Invitational Gold Bracket championship at Warner Park on a cold, windy afternoon.
The Lady Red Raiders came up with a run in the third and two more in the fourth of a five-inning showdown.
In the third, Cadashia Collins drew a one-out walk and went to second on Emily Rye’s groundout. MaKayla Packer stroked an RBI single to center field.
An inning later, Brinley Garrison hit a two-out single to center, Raven Jones tripled her home and Jones went home on Macy Ann McKnight’s single to left.
Summit managed just two hits – singles by Kaitlyn Woodside and Carly Scott – and two walks off Baylor pitching.
Packer had two hits for Baylor.
Soddy-Daisy 7, Oakland 2: The Lady Trojans scored five runs in the first inning for the four-inning victory over the Lady Patriots.
Courtney Sneed and Stephanie Blevins each singled to start the big inning and Laci Mercer’s sacrifice bunt moved the runners to third and second. Javaria Smith reached on a fielder’s choice to load the bases. Kaylin Fugatt drew a walk, forcing in the first run. A second run came home when Hope Ingle was hit by a pitch. Emily Higgins’ walk sent Smith in with the third run. Baylie Davis delivered an RBI single and Sneed’s second hit pushed across capped the five-run outburst.
Sneed went 3 for 3 for the Lady Trojans.
Davis threw a four-hitter and allowed two runs, struck out four and walked two.
Cookeville 5, Soddy-Daisy 0: The Lady Cavaliers, who would go on to play for the Silver Bracket championship, hit the Lady Trojans with a five-run fourth inning.
Cookeville’s Morgan Radford stopped Soddy-Daisy on three hits – singles by Courtney Sneed, Javaria Smith and Kaylin Fugatt. Radford, who went 2 for 2 and drove in two runs, struck out six and walked one.
Stephanie Blevins started in the circle for the Lady Trojans and went 3 1/3 innings. She gave up five hits and four runs and fanned two and walked two. Emily Higgins yielded four hits and a run before recording the final out.
Radford, Bailey Turnbow and Hannah Johnson each had two hits for Cookeville.
Dekalb County 11, McMinn County 3: Dekalb scored 10 runs in the first two innings, including eight in the second, and posted an easy three-inning victory over the Lady Cherokees.
Emma Colwell and Madison Whitehead combined on a seven-hitter for Dekalb. Colwell gave up one run in each of the three innings. McMinn had seven different players collect a single. Natalie Hyde had the only RBI for the Lady Cherokees.
East Hamilton 1, Whitwell 0: Ally Sue went 2 for 2 and drove in the winning run for the Lady Hurricanes. Syvana Rogers also had two hits and Syerra Rogers was the winning pitcher and struck out eight.
East Hamilton 7, Central 3: Brooke McMillan scattered five hits and got the win while Syerra and Syvana Rogers, Shelbie Sholtz and Ally Sue each had two hits.
East Hamilton 9, Summit 5: The Lady Hurricanes (17-12) scored nine runs in the last inning to pull out the victory. Brooke McMillan was the winning pitcher while Reese Knox, Syvana Rogers, Shelbie Sholtz and Sydney Batten all had two hits.
