Police Blotter: Diaper Thieves Make Escape At CVS; Woman Has $7,000 Designer Purse Stolen From Vehicle; Fire Engine Helps Woman Get Out Of Locked Montague Park

A lawn care worker said  he was cutting the grass for one of his clients at 825 Runyan Dr. He had his truck and trailer he uses to haul his equipment parked at the bottom of the hill. He stated that while he was cutting grass a maroon Ford truck pulled next to his truck and a skinny white male with a beard and brown hair jumped out of the truck and grabbed his weedeater and his leaf blower. He also stated the maroon vehicle had cabinets stacked neatly in the bed of the truck. He said the blower was worth approximately $600, and the weedeater was worth approximately $300.

A woman at Kings Point Road said her window was busted out of her vehicle and her purse was stolen. The damage done was $500 and was the second row passenger side window. She saidher purse and wallet was valued at $7,000 as it was a designer style. In her purse were numerous credit and debit cards, including  one that was used at a BP gas station in Chickamauga, Ga. The suspects charged $194 to her card. Another card was used at a Dollar Tree for $50.45.l

At the CVS on Brainerd Road, a store employee said a Ford Escape backed into the side parking lot and two black females exited the vehicle and entered the store. The two women walked to the diaper shelf and the two of them grabbed five boxes of Huggies and Pampers and took off running out the back door. They jumped into the Ford Escape and fled the area in a unknown direction. The event was caught on camera.

A man told police he was traveling north on I-75 in lane 4 when the right tire on his trailer broke off. He said he just had a company repair his axle, and he believes that the company provided poor quality work. When the tire came off, the tire landed on the left side of lane 3. Police then spoke with two other men who had both run over the runaway tire. There was damage to one man's front left rim, and the front left fender.

Police attempted to pull over a Chevy Suburban. Upon stopping, the driver exited the vehicle and began walking to a house. The driver was told to get back into the vehicle and close the door and he returned to his vehicle. A few moments later the driver opened the door and began running with a bag in his left hand. He ran between a few houses and began hopping fences and evading police. The driver is a black male, 5'11'', skinny (approximately 150-160 pounds). The vehicle was towed to Yates Towing. Police said it "was registered to Tomorrow Green, possibly girlfriend of driver who fled."

A resident of Cannondale Loop said her mailbox had been damaged. Police noticed the mailbox lying on the ground in pieces totally destroyed. It appeared as if someone had completely run it over. A neighbor told police that he heard a loud bang around 2:30 a.m. He also stated to police that the mailbox would cost about $1,000.

Officers checked out a suspicious vehicle at 601 N Willow St. Upon arrival, police observed the vehicle to be empty and the interior "was disgusting and the smell was horrific." The vehicle was not stolen and it came back to 104 Lawn St. Due to the current state of the vehicle, police put a tow sticker with a notice to be removed within 48 hours on the back window of the vehicle.

Officers responded to an Assist A Citizen Call at 1151 E 23rd St. Upon arrival, an officer observed Ms. Patrice Wilcox, who was inside of Montague Park with her dog. Ms. Wilcox was locked inside the park. She said she never saw a sign stating that the park had closing times. Dispatch called Public Works along with other city agencies, but was unable to get anyone to let Ms. Wilcox out safely. Ms. Wilcox was not able to scale to fence due to limitations. Due to cold weather conditions, Engine 1 was called out to break the chain securing the gate in order for Ms. Wilcox to be let out of the park. Engine 1 cut the chain which allowed Ms. Wilcox to exit the park without incident. The officer moved the gate back in its original closed position and tried to secure it best as possible.

A man told police his vehicle was taken while he was inside Erlanger Hospital at the ATM. He said he left the keys inside the car while inside the hospital. He looked outside to see his vehicle being taken, and driving toward E 3rd Street. While the suspect was pulling out to E 3rd St, it struck another vehicle in the side. The stolen vehicle left the scene of the crash and fled heading east on E 3rd Street. Officers patrolled the area for the stolen vehicle. They located it at the Speedway gas station at 1330 E 3rd St. The stolen vehicle had heavy front end damage from the crash that occurred at 975 E 3rd St. Officers were able to look at surveillance cameras from the Speedway where the stolen vehicle was recovered. The footage showed a black male exiting the vehicle at 12:11 p.m. The owner said that once he returned home to check his vehicle he found paperwork belonging to Yohannes Tekle inside of his vehicle. He said he "is not familiar with Mr. Tekle and believes this party may be the person who stole his car."
