The Dalton Police Department is asking for the public’s help to identify two people who shoplifted a ferret from a pet store last month in Dalton. The suspects were caught on surveillance video.
The incident happened on June 26, at the Petland store at 1349 W.
Walnut Ave. in the Kroger shopping center. Shortly after 1 p.m., a young man and woman walked into the store and started hanging around the ferret cage. Store employees told police that the woman asked to see a credit application for purchasing the ferret, which was valued at approximately $230, but then folded the paper up and put it in her purse and said that her boyfriend was going to take care of the purchase.
After employees went back about their business, the pair continued to hang around the ferret cage. At one point the ferret appeared to bite the woman’s hand. Moments later the man could be seen on video picking the ferret up and stuffing it into the woman’s bag. The pair then walked out of the store.
The woman wore a white dress and had dirty blonde hair that was pulled up into a bun and was wearing white shoes, and store employees said that she spoke with a speech impediment. The man wore a white T-shirt and black shorts and a black baseball hat with a large green logo. He had a beard.
Anyone who recognizes the two suspects or has information about this crime is asked to contact Officer Colten McDaniel at 706 278-9085, ext. 9593, or by email at cmcdaniel2@daltonga.gov.
