Trio Charged In Murder Of Tracy Calloway On Trailwood Drive; Slaying Caught On Home Video; Witness Says Group Went Out "To Shoot Someone"

  • Friday, August 2, 2019

The Chattanooga Police Department on Friday arrested three suspects on murder charges related to the July 21 shooting of Tracy Calloway in the 4600 block of Trailwood Drive. Police said the incident was caught on home video.

The arrests of Antonio Watkins, 25; Prandel Reid Jr., 27, and Jamichael Smith, 26, came after an extensive investigation by the CPD Homicide Unit.

Police said Calloway was shot multiple times. There were also multiple bullets holes in the white sedan he was occupying. He was pronounced dead two and a half hours after being shot.

Police said a witness states that the group talked about "going out and shooting someone."

The video from a nearby house showed a minivan stop in the roadway and a silver sedan come around it and stop in front of it. Two people got out of the passenger side of the minivan, including one who was armed with a long gun. Several shots were then heard.

The two people then got back in the minivan and it and the sedan went out of the view of the camera. The minivan was found backed into the front yard of 4617 Trailwood Dr.

Shell casings were found about four houses down from where the victim's car wound up.

Police said the witness was present at the time of the shooting and that the statements of the witness were backed up by evidence at the scene and the video footage.

Police said, "Based on the information gathered to this point by CPD Homicide Investigators, the homicide that occurred on July 21 appears to have occurred among individuals who knew one another."

All three suspects are charged with first-degree murder, criminal conspiracy, unlawful possession of a firearm (convicted felon), possession of a firearm during commission of a felony, and reckless endangerment.

Bond for each was set at $1.2 million.

Antonio Watkins' criminal history is extensive and includes attempted murder, aggravated assault, retaliation against an official, and numerous drug-related charges.

Prandel Reid Jr. has previously been charged with aggravated assault, felony evading arrest, and drug possession/resale charges.

Jamichael Smith also has a lengthy criminal history and has previously been charged with first-degree murder, aggravated assault, and numerous weapons charges.

The suspects were taken into custody with the assistance of the CPD Fugitive Unit, United States Marshals Service, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. Additional assistance provided by Hamilton County District Attorney's Office, United States Attorney's Office, Metro Nashville Police Department, Davidson County Sheriff's Office, Hamilton County Fugitive Unit, and United States Probation agents. All three suspects were taken into custody and booked at the Hamilton County Jail.
