CHA To Host Housing Fairs; Seeks To Fill Vacancies At College Hill, East Lake And Emma Wheeler Homes

  • Thursday, August 22, 2019
The Chattanooga Housing Authority will host two housing fairs to connect future residents with housing opportunities within their communities.

The first housing fair will be held on Thursday, Aug. 29 from 1-4 p.m. and the second will be held on Sept. 5 from 1-4 p.m.  Both events will be held at the Chattanooga Housing Authority office multi-purpose room, 801 North Holtzclaw Ave. Future residents will be assisted in filling out applications with the screening process beginning immediately after completion of the forms.  For those unable to attend, the CHA will have a copy of the application available on their website that can be printed.  Additional applications can be obtained from the from any CHA community and from many cooperating area non-profit agencies.

There are one, two and three bedroom units available; however, the number of each varies by community.
The CHA requires a $160 security deposit, along with a background check and first month’s rent.  CHA Executive Director Betsy McCright said, “While we require a deposit, we have the ability to work with individuals in creative ways to meet the security deposit requirement.  Our top priority is to connect good people with places to live that will assist them with the first steps toward financial sustainability.”

Those successful in completing the application and screening process may be able to move into their new homes by mid-September.

Director of Public Housing Mike Sabin said, “We’re excited to have units ready for new residents. We hope to get as many individuals as possible housed before the coming cooler months.”
