HCSO Corrections Employee Goes On Vandalism Rampage At Complex On Cherokee Boulevard

A Hamilton County corrections deputy was arrested by the Chattanooga Police Department on multiple charges Tuesday morning after going on a drunken rampage at a residential complex on Cherokee Boulevard.

Samuel Bruns, 23, was charged with multiple counts of burglary and vandalism as well as public intoxication and disorderly conduct.

Police said they were first called at 1:44 a.m. by an Uber driver who said his passenger was so drunk that he could not provide the address of where he lived. When an officer arrived, Bruns was getting in a vehicle with a female friend. The officer said Bruns had drunk too much and she was taking him home.

After a follow-up call at 328 Cherokee Blvd., officers found 14 vehicles in a parking garage that had various damages. The vehicles had broken windows and dents. A new motorcycle with a drive out tag had been thrown over and damaged. Items from the vehicles were thrown all over the garage.

Blood was found on most of the vehicles inside and out. Police said Bruns had cut his arm reaching through broken out windows.

Police found Bruns on the third floor of the garage going threw a Ford F-150 and throwing out items. He had blood all over his hands and arms. 

Bruns was hired on May 28, 2019, and has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an ongoing Internal Affairs investigation. 
 
The incident occurred while Bruns was off duty.
