Virginia L. Mitchell, 84, of Rossville, Georgia, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 29, 2020. She is now at peace and with her Savior.

 

Virginia was born on Feb. 11, 1936, in Chattanooga, a daughter of the late John and Pearl Nabors.

 

Virginia was also known as Ginger by her family and she also was affectionately referred to as Chicory (Chic) by several close family members. She graduated from Chattanooga High School and worked at Combustion Engineering as a secretary in the 1950s. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church, Chattanooga, where she loved studying the Bible and growing in God's Word. She was a prayer warrior who could be counted on for her daily prayers for others. Mrs. Mitchell enjoyed spending time with her immediate family, friends, cousins and especially with her two grandsons, Tanner and Tristan.  Mrs. Mitchell made many lifelong friends and enjoyed getting together as frequently as possible.  She was especially close to the Mink family and looked forward to her daily phone conversations with her best friend of over 75 years, Janice Mink Clark.

 

She was preceded in death by husband, Roland Mitchell; son, Gary Mitchell; sister, Sue Wade; aunt, Boaby Day and grandparents, Bart and Essie Brookshire and John Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Nabors.

 

Survivors include her son, Randall (Velvet) Mitchell, grandsons, Tanner and Tristan Mitchell. She also leaves behind many close cousins and friends as well as several nieces and nephews. 

 

A graveside funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 7, at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with Reverend Scott Quinn officiating.

 

Per the current health situation and mandate of the Hamilton County mayor, visitors must adhere to all CDC guidelines, including social distancing and the wearing of facial coverings for the service.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St Jude Children's Research Hospital, Attn: Memorial Processing, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or at www.stjude.org.
