Ray Jefferson "Jeff" Caplenor
Ray Jefferson "Jeff" Caplenor, 74, passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2020, at his home in Signal Mountain, Tennessee, surrounded by his family.
Jeff was born on March 12, 1946, in Lebanon, Tn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray Edwin Caplenor and Ruby Ray (McDaniel) Caplenor. He was a 1964 graduate of Castle Heights Military Academy where he was active in sports. He was captain of the basketball team. He graduated with a B.S. degree in Business Administration from Tennessee Technological University in 1968. While at TTU, Jeff served as an A.S.B. Senator for two years on the Student Government, as well as President of Kappa Phi Delta, a local fraternity that af?liated with Kappa Sigma National Fraternity. He was a lifelong apparel executive, having worked for Fruit of the Loom. Gerber Childrenswear Company, and Robinson Manufacturing Company during his 48-year career. His work gave him the opportunity to travel the world overseeing plant operations in several countries.
A lifelong avid golfer he was a member of several golf clubs throughout his lifetime, the most recent being Signal Mountain Golf & Country Club. Jeff was on SMGCC’s Board of Directors for several years and served as President for the past two years. He was an active member of the SMGCC Board at the time of his death. He was a Golfweek Magazine Course Rater which offered the opportunity to play many amazing golf courses throughout the US, Caribbean and Mexico.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Suzanne Suttle Caplenor; two daughters, Amy Catherine (Todd) Liscomb of Mountain Brook, Alabama and Molly Rhea Caplenor of Blue Mountain Beach, Florida; grandchildren Anniston Suttle Liscomb, Kathryn Grace Liscomb, and William Jefferson Liscomb; brother Jere (Karen) Caplenor of Lebanon, Tennessee; nephews Ben (Lea) Caplenor and Nick (Dorothy) Caplenor of Chattanooga, Tennessee; three great nephews, one great niece, several cousins, many dear friends and gol?ng pards.
There will be a private family service at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church on Signal Mountain on Saturday, Dec. 26, followed by a family celebration of life. A Celebration of Life for Family and Friends will be planned for early spring at Signal Mountain Golf & Country Club.
The family would like to thank the Hospice of Chattanooga Mountain View Team, as well as St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church.
In lieu of ?owers, a memorial fund is being established which will support future young golfers of Signal Mountain. Details will be provided at the Spring Celebration of Life.
