UTC Women Travel To Atlanta For GSU Holiday Classic

  • Saturday, December 19, 2020
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s basketball team will head to Atlanta for the 2020 GSU Holiday Classic. The Mocs will face former Southern Conference foe Georgia Southern Sunday afternoon and the host Panthers Monday.

Chattanooga is 2-4 overall and shooting 39.6 percent from the field. The Mocs average 66 points per game and 38 rebounds. Eboni Williams leads UTC in scoring with 11.5 points per game. Bria Dial is second with 10.2 and Abbey Cornelius is the top rebounder with 8.2 per game.

The last time the Mocs and Eagles faced off was Georgia Southern’s final game as a member of the SoCon.
UTC defeated GSU 66-57 in the quarterfinal round of the league tournament. UTC is 37-18 all-time against Georgia Southern and won the last eight meetings.

The Eagles are 3-2 on the year with wins over Augusta, Coastal Georgia and Georgia Southwestern. GSU fell in its opener to Jacksonville State and against Furman at home. GSU averages 80 points per game and is shooting 37.7 percent.

It’s been even longer since UTC and Georgia State faced off. While the Mocs lead the series 12-3, the Panthers got the win in the last meeting in 2001 at the Panther Invitational in Atlanta. Chattanooga head coach Katie (Galloway) Burrows was a freshman on Wes Moore’s third team.

Georgia State is averaging 69.6 points per game with a 3-2 overall mark. The Panthers are shooting 39.2 from the field and 33.1 beyond the arc.

The Mocs will play the second game each day with a tentative start time of 3:00 p.m. The first games will tip at 1:00 p.m. There will not be video for Sunday’s game against Georgia Southern. The Mocs game against the Panthers on Monday will air on ESPN+. Both games will be carried live on WFLI 1070 AM/97.7 FM. Links for all as well as live stats will be available at GoMocs.com.
