MLK Week And March To Be Virtual In 2021

  • Tuesday, December 29, 2020

Martin Luther King, Jr.'s words serve as the theme of the 51st Annual MLK Week and March -- “Just Keep Moving”, and given COVID-19 concerns, the 51st Annual MLK Week and March will “keep moving” by celebrating virtually in 2021, Jan. 12-18.

In 1967 Martin Luther King addressed a group of students at Glenville High School in Cleveland, Ohio.

He spoke about the virtues of freedom and human dignity.

He urged them to “develop within ourselves a deep sense of somebodiness.”

He told them to “make constructive use of the freedom we already possess.”

He implored them to “Set out to do a good job and do that job so well that nobody can do it any better.”

He concluded by saying “Life for none of us has been a crystal stair, but we must keep moving.
We must keep going. If you can't fly, run. If you can't run, walk. If you can't walk, crawl. But by all means, keep moving!”

Despite the inability to meet in person for the planned activities, organizers want to ensure the community Chattanooga’s MLK Week will continue as it has for last 50+ years.  It will be forwarding links to online virtual activities in public announcements and over social media sites.

Individuals, groups and organizations who wish to participate in the Virtual March may do so by sharing personal MLK March photos memories and moments from the past.

Please send photos memories and messages directly to the Unity Group email address, unitygroupchatt02@gmail.com, or post them on the Facebook page at: facebook.com/unitygroupofchattanooga.

For larger submissions (like video), please contact the Unity Group to upload attachments using Dropbox.

Final entries must be submitted by Jan. 8 in order to ensure inclusion in this year's Virtual March.
