Jerry Summers Speaks To Elder Scholars Tuesday Via Zoom

Elder Scholars will host "Tennessee Trivia" Tuesday at 1 p.m.featuring Jerry H. Summers.

Mr. Summers will regale the audience with unusual and relatively unknown Tennessee facts. He wills peaks about celebrities from the state, interesting personalities, places of interest and unusual events. These include:

Celebrities from Grace Moore to Dinah Shore of entertainment stardom and Ralph McGill, Drue Smith and John Popham of newspaper fame;

Interesting personalities such as daredevil pilot Harry Porter, Judge Sue Hicks (a boy named Sue), Al Capone, judge and author Ellis K. Meacham, infamous Byron de la Beckwith and showman Joe Engel; 

Places of interest from Beersheba Springs to Marr Field to Chamberlain Field; 

"Rasslin" and the soap box derby; 

Unusual events such as the Cotton Ball, a moonshine feud on Daisy Mountain, the Battle of Athens, the Whitwell mine disaster and the Chattanooga divorce mill scandal.

One attendee will win a copy of Mr. Summer's book Tennessee Trivia.

About Mr. Summers: 

Jerry H. Summers is a lifelong resident of Hamilton County. Following his graduation from law school, he served two years as a prosecutor in the Hamilton County District Attorney's Office. Entering private practice in 1969, he became the founding member of what is now Summers, Rufolo & Rodgers. An experienced trial lawyer, Mr. Summers is one of a small number of attorneys included in every annual volume of Best Lawyers in America in both personal injury and criminal law. He is also only one of approximately five attorneys in the State of Tennessee who has been selected for membership in the major honorarias based on legal ability and ethical criteria. He has argued cases before the United States and Tennessee Supreme Courts and has been involved in numerous landmark decisions in both civil and criminal law.

Mr. Summers is active in numerous other legal and community groups and has served on the boards of Area IV Special Olympics, CADAS (treatment of alcohol/drug abuse), and several others including Orange Grove Center (for the mentally and physically impaired).

While maintaining an active trial practice, he has taken a serious interest in local history by being active in the Chattanooga Historical Society and has published a number of books/articles including:
