Weekly Road Construction Report

Here is the weekly road construction report for Hamilton County:

I-24 replacement of Belvoir Ave. bridge over I-24 and I-24 bridges over Germantown Road near MM 183: The contractor will be installing construction signage beginning Thursday. This work will require a single left lane closure in each direction of I-24 between MM 182 & MM 185. These lane closures will occur Thursday and Sunday through Wednesday from 9 p.m.-6 a.m. Estimated project completion date is August 2021. [Bell and Associates Construction, LP/Blevins/CMGC03]

I-75 at I-24 Interchange Reconstruction: Phase one traffic shifts have been implemented. Traffic should expect multiple lane shifts traveling through the interchange. Lane closures will occur Sunday nights through Thursday nights between 9 p.m.-6 a.m. at the following locations: I-75 NB MM 1, I-75 SB MM 3 and I-24 EB MM 184.0 Traffic pacing may occur throughout interchange Sunday nights through Thursday nights between 9 p.m.-6 a.m. Additionally, there may intermittent shoulder closures at various locations for access to the median and roadside areas. US-27 (I-124) widening from I-24/US-27 interchange to north of the Olgiati Bridge over the Tennessee River, including widening the Olgiati Bridge: Work on this project continues with activities occurring on the west side of southbound US-27. Motorists should be alert for construction vehicles entering and leaving the area along the access ramps for east and westbound M. L. King Boulevard. The speed limit for the access ramp is 35 MPH. The southbound ramp from W. Main St. to southbound US-27 has been temporarily closed and will remain so until further notice. Detours are posted. Motorists should pay close attention to the detour signage posted. The speed limit on US-27 in the construction zone remains 45 MPH. Weather permitting; the contractor may implement temporary lane/shoulder closures on weeknights between the hours of 7 p.m.-6 a.m. At least one lane will remain open in each direction on US-27. On 04/02/20 from 7 p.m.-6 a.m., a temporary lane closure will be in place for southbound US-27 from the Olgiati Bridge to the Martin Luther King Blvd Bridge for shifting EXIT 1B (Eastbound Martin Luther King Blvd Exit) to the south from its current location. This will require a double right lane closure coming across the Olgiati Bridge. EXIT 1B will be closed during this operation. Eastbound Martin Luther King Blvd traffic will be detoured at EXIT 1C to 6th Street / Broad Street / Martin Luther King Blvd. After this work is completed EXIT 1B will be located in between the 6th Street Bridge and the Martin Luther King Blvd. Bridge. One State Trooper is requested for this operation. On Tuesday from 7 a.m.-6 p.m., a temporary lane closure will be in place for eastbound and westbound Martin Luther King Blvd. for shifting traffic to the south side of Martin Luther King Blvd. to allow the north side to be rebuilt. When these closures are finished there will be one lane of traffic in each direction from Pine Street to the west end of the project limits (in front of the Holiday Inn Express & Suites). The pedestrian access will also be relocated to the south side of Martin Luther King Boulevard. One State Trooper is requested for this operation. RESTRICTIONS: I-124 (US-27) Northbound Exit 1C 4th St Off Ramp: No oversize/over dimensional loads; I-124 (US-27) Southbound Exit 1C 4th St Of Ramp: On oversize/over dimensional loads; I-124 (US-27) Southbound Exit 1B East Martin Luther King Blvd. Off Ramp: No oversized/over dimensional loads; I-124 (US-27) Southbound On Ramps from Martin Luther King Blvd.: No oversized/over dimensional loads. [Dement Construction Company, LLC/Micka/CNP230]

TDOT Contractor on SR-58 (HWY. 58) southbound from LM 9.62 to LM 9.46: During this reporting period, one lane will be closed in the southbound direction as construction crews perform work on the sidewalk.

TDOT Contractor on I-24 both directions from MM 171 to MM 179: Daytime, mobile, shoulder closures will occur to support surveying activities. The surveyors will be working during this reporting period from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. 

TDOT Contractor on US-127 (SR-8/Signal Mountain Boulevard) in both directions from LM 14 to LM 16.5: Beginning on 04/01/20, geotechnical contract crews will begin conducting drilling operations to evaluate the roadway for a future improvement project. These operations are estimated to continue on weekdays during daytime hours for approximately five weeks. The contractor will begin work at 9 AM each day and work as long as possible. There are ten sites between SR-27/Suck Creek Road to past Shoal Creek Road that the contactor will be investigating during this time period. During drilling operations, the roadway will be temporarily reduced to one lane. Drivers are encouraged to be patient and alert as they travel through the work zone. Estimated completion date is May. TDOT Maintenance on SR-29 (US-27) northbound from LM 29.4 to LM 29.5: On Monday and Tuesday of this reporting period, Maintenance will have one lane closed in the northbound direction as they work on the ditch and install a drainage structure.

TDOT Maintenance on SR-317 (Apison Pike) westbound from LM 6.689 to LM 6.604: On Wednesday of this reporting period, Maintenance crews will have one lane closed in the westbound lane as they work on the stream and trees.

SR-317 (Apison Pike) Improvement project from SR-321 (Ooltewah-Ringgold Road) to east of Layton Lane: All Routes open with only intermittent flagging for material, equipment, and tree cutting activities.
