Donna Diane Smith, 68, of Dayton, passed away on Sunday afternoon, July 19, 2020, at Memorial Health in Chattanooga.

Donna was born on March 14, 1952 in Dayton, the daughter of the late George and Ruth (Renfro) Miles. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Larry Miles and Charles Miles; and her sisters, Brenda Wiggins and Patsy Reel Moore.

Donna lived in Dayton most of her life. She was a student at Rhea Central High School and earned her EMS Certification. Donna was a healthcare worker at Rhea Co. Primary Care with Dr. Sid Tantihachai and was formerly employed with Dr. Alan Crews and Dr. Beth Casady. She was very proud of her work in the medical and dental field. She loved her grandchildren more than they could ever know. That was her constant. She loved joking around just like her brother Larry did and laughed all the time about the things her brother Charles use to do. Her heart would break for animals that were hurting or needed homes. She could be tough on the outside all while carrying around a heart of gold. It can be said that she accepted and loved those that may not always feel that way among society. She made room for everyone in her heart. Donna was a member and the treasurer of the Graysville United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Jimmy Smith of Dayton; her two daughters, Teresa (Todd) Brooks of Gallatin and Angie (Chris) Grainger of Loudon; her son, Brian Smith of Dayton; and grandchildren, Collin Brooks, Aaron Brooks, Zachary Grainger, Lauren Grainger, Austin Smith and Brianna Smith.

A private family graveside service for Donna will be held on Saturday, August 1, with Reverend Harold Dixon officiating. She will be laid to rest in Rhea Memory Gardens next to her brother, followed by a white dove release. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.

Please share your memories of Donna on her online guest register at www.vanderwallfh.com.

The family is being cared for by the Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rhea County Animal Shelter Alliance, 9118 Back Valley Road, Evensville, Tn. 37332.
