Roy Dean Brookshire, 82, was surrounded by family when he passed into the presence of the Lord on January 29, 2021, at Hospice of Chattanooga.

Roy was born to Joseph and Relia Moore Brookshire on May 1, 1938, in Elizabethton, Tn. He met his wife of 57 years, Joyce Trivett, in the second grade in Piney Flats, Tn., and they were happily married in November 1957. The newlyweds spent their honeymoon in Chattanooga, unaware at the time that it would later become their home of more than 50 years.

Roy and Joyce made their first home in Washington, D.C., where Roy worked for the Navy Department from 1956 to 1960. He attended George Washington University before moving to Bristol, Tenn., where he graduated from ETSU with a B.S. in accounting in 1963. Upon graduation, Roy accepted a position with Arthur Andersen’s Chattanooga office. In 1977, he joined Hazlett, Lewis and Bieter as a partner and ran the firm’s audit division and served as chairman of the executive committee.

He served on many boards, including the Holston Conference Foundation of the United Methodist Church, the National Craniofacial Association, READ Chattanooga, Senior Neighbors and CADAS.

Roy was an active member of McFarland United Methodist Church, where he volunteered on several committees and sang in the choir while Joyce played the piano for most of his 56-year membership. He was an avid tennis player and played on several USTA state tennis teams. Roy and Joyce enjoyed traveling all over the world – something he continued with his son Danny after Joyce’s passing in 2014. Most of all, Roy was happiest spending time with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and beloved granddog, Roscoe.

He was preceded in death by his wife Joyce, parents, and sisters Frances Mellon and Peggy Malott.

Roy is survived by his children, Debbie (Kenneth) Parsons, Mike (Temple) Brookshire, Danny Brookshire; twin brother, Troy (Vondra) Brookshire, and sisters, Mary Brookshire and Sylvia Henderson; grandchildren, Chris (Kelley) Parsons, Jon (Sissy) Parsons, Kellie (Tyler) Thomas, Katie (David) Wilson, Chase (Lauren) Brookshire, Chloe (Austin) Coley, Austin Brookshire and Ryan Brookshire; 15 (soon to be 16) great grandchildren and Roscoe.

Memorial contributions may be made to CADAS or Hospice of Chattanooga. A special thanks from the family to the Hospice staff and the loving and caring physicians and co-workers at Tennessee Oncology.
