On September 23, 2021, RL Forbis passed away at his home in Hixson, Tennessee after a period of declining health. He was 84 years old. 

RL is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Hilda. He is also survived by his three children: Mada (Randy) Murray, Marsha (Tim) Beene and Michael (Alex) Forbis – all of Soddy Daisy – and his sister Loretta (Larry) Adkins of Winfield, Tennessee, eight grandchildren: Dustin Valentour, Mark Gentry, Lauren Valentour Hankins, Christian Ratliff, Jessica Murray, Michael Forbis, Christian Cannon and Maddox Forbis, sisters-in-law Faye Stanley, Wanda Leslie, Kathy (Jerry) Lloyd, four great-grandchildren, multiple nieces and nephews and special family friends Buck and Georganna Cooper family.

RL was born in Oneida, Tn. He graduated from Oneida High School in 1956, then began his career in the poultry business. For over 45 years, RL worked in facilities, management, and traveling the region educating and helping farmers provide for their families and communities. He retired as processing plant manager at Allen Farms in Chattanooga.

RL’s Christian faith was an essential part of his life. At the time of his death, RL was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Red Bank. He was also a former member of Lupton Drive Baptist Church, where he served as deacon, Sunday School director, and on multiple Operational Committees. RL was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed sharing this time with his friends and family.

The family would like to thank Dr. Mark Heinsohn, Dr. John Gwin, Dr. Robert Younger, Memorial Hospital Wound Care, and Amedysis Home Health for their caring and patience over the years.

Visitation and funeral service for RL is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 30, at Chattanooga Funeral Home, North Chapel at 5401 Highway 153 in Hixson.

Visitation will start at 11 a.m. with the funeral service starting at 2 p.m. The graveside burial ceremony will take place at the nearby Hamilton Memorial Gardens. Bro. Dwight Martin will be officiating. 

Masking will be required for visitation and services.
