Nurses Need Fair Compensation, Not Executives - And Response

Re:  Roy Exum: The Degradation Of Nurses

The author is absolutely right. Nurses and others who actually deliver services need fair compensation.

Executives do not need hundreds of times the pay of those who do the work.

I dont think anyone would argue that nurses, like police officers and teachers, are not paid their true value. However just because they aren't doesn't mean hospital senior executives are overpaid.

The CHI Memorial CEO Janelle Reilly makes about $795,000 a year. To earn this pay she oversees an operation with revenues of $685 million, assets of $539 million, 3,500 employees, 661 medical staff and 500 volunteers. (Full disclosure, I am a volunteer). So how much should someone with this much responsibility make?

Mr. Odom might want to check his math. He said executives make 100s times more than their employees. If the average salary of nurse is $60,000 then Ms. Reilly would be making at least $6 million.

Thanks to everyone involved in the health industry for their valiant work during these COVID times.
