USMC Corporal E-4 Lee Bray, Jr., 75, passed away on Sunday, January 23,2022 in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

USMC Corporal E-4 Lee was the eldest son born October 24, 1946, in Harris City, Ga., to the late Hazel Clements-Baskin and the late Lee “Bud” Bray Sr. He accepted Christ at an early age. Lee loved playing dominoes, dancing, singing, reading, drawing and he taught  himself how to play the guitar. Oh yeah, and he could fight! He was our go to brother in any situation; he was strong, gentle and kind but he could take someone down if he had to. He was a graduate of Howard Hustling Tigers High School, class of  1964. He was retired as a welder with Combustion Engineering.

USMC Corporal E-4 Lee was a decorated soldier in the United States Marine Corps as a Rifleman and was honorably discharged.  While serving our country for a four-year tour he received the following distinguished honors: Corporal E-4, National Defense Medal, Viet Nam Service Medal w/1*, Viet Nam Campaign Medal w/device, Purple Heart Medal w/1*, Combat Action Ribbon, Rifle Sharpshooter Badge, Good Conduct Medal.

USMC Corporal E-4 Lee was preceded in death by his mother, Hazel Baskin, his father’s, Lee Bray, Sr. and Leroy Baskin; sisters, Josephine Clements and Doris Clements Bray Knight Hogg Long, etc.; brothers, Eugene Bray and Wilbur Bray; grandmother, Susie Clements; sister in law, Henrietta “Big Bit” Douglas; brother in law, Walter Long; nieces Latoysha Long and DeShannon Long and nephew DeHart ”Benie Jett” Hubbard.

USMC Corporal E-4 Lee leaves to cherish his memories, his caregiver and loving and devoted wife, Marietta Douglas Bray; devoted sons, Terrance (Kimberly)  Sterling, Donald (Jacqueline) Sterling, Sherwin Sterling; devoted daughter, Tiffany Whitlock; siblings, Robert (Winifred) Bray, Kenneth (Marshall) Bray, Cassandra (DeHart) Hubbard, and Valencia Baskin, all of Chattanooga; uncles, Rev. B.L. (Alice) Clements, of Atlanta, Robert (Helen) Clements, of Fort Washington, Md., Eddie (Dorothy) Clemons, of Antioch, Tn.; beloved Aunt, Gladys Parham, of LaGrange, Ga; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

Public viewing will be held from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 3, at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, followed by a noon funeral service in the chapel. Pastor Larry Erskine will be the eulogist. 

Interment will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
