The Women of Five Springs Methodist Church will be hosting “An Evening of Gospel Music” on Sunday. The event will feature two area groups, The Gospel Songbirds a nine member men’s gospel group and bluegrass band Spatial Effects. The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the public is invited.

The Gospel Songbirds is composed of David Arnold, Don Marsh, Eli Ellington, George Ramsey, Rick Davis, Ladale Howell, Donny Suttles, Eric Findley, and Thurman “Catfish” Dozier”. This Dalton based group describes their music as “down home foot-stomping soul gospel”. The Songbirds trace their roots back to a handful of men who volunteered to sing at a memorial service for a friend. They enjoyed singing together so much, they agreed to form a group and after a few practices the Songbirds took flight and have been sharing the gospel through their uplifting and encouraging versions of old spirituals and traditional gospel songs. The nine member group has performed all over the southeast at numerous churches as well as many gospel singings, benefits, and dedication ceremonies

Also performing will be the northwest Georgia based band Spatial Effects. The group is composed of Earl Brackin (mandolin and vocals), Tom Brown (banjo and harmonica), David Crawford  (guitar and vocals), Phil Paris (bass and vocals), and Tim Witt (dobro and bass). Over the years Spatial Effects has performed at numerous venues throughout the south, including Chattanooga’s River Bend Festival, Night Fall, the Alabama Egg Festival, county fairs, and too many churches to even begin to count. The band has also opened for several national touring bands, including The Claire Lynch Band, The Becky Buller Band, and Goose Creek Symphony.

Five Springs Methodist Church is at 2823 Five Springs Road in Dalton. The Five Springs Women will be serving hot dogs, chips, and drinks. The event is free to the public. For additional information please contact Rev. Sandra Franklin (404) 226-6089.
