  • Saturday, December 3, 2022
It came down the fourth quarter for the Mocs who fell 61-52 inside Coleman Coliseum to Alabama, snapping UTC’s four-game win streak, in non-conference women’s basketball action. Chattanooga drops to 6-4 on the year while the Crimson Tide improves to 6-2.

Chattanooga held near even for more than three quarters, trailing Alabama 27-25 at the half and 42-41 headed into the final 10 minutes.

Addie Grace Porter, the Mocs leading rebounder, connected on one of her two free throws to start the fourth, tying the game 42-42 with 9:43 to play.
Alabama scored the next six points to pull away 48-42, but Porter’s 3-pointer from the top of the arc cut that to 48-45 with 5:37 to play.

Alabama’s JaMya Mingo-Young gave her team a five-point cushion with a short jumper, but a rainbow from Sigrun Olafsdottir as the shot clock ran out pulled Chattanooga to within a pair, 50-48 with 3:28 remaining.

It would be all Tide the rest of the way, outscoring UTC 11-4 in the final 2:49 and 19-11 in the final quarter for the win.

Yazz Wazeerud-Din led Chattanooga with 21 points. She scored 18 of her points in the second (10) and third quarters (8) as the Alabama defense zeroed in on the number three scorer in the Southern Conference. She was had three from long range and pulled in three boards.

Addie Grace Porter had a game-high nine rebounds, just missing a double-double with 12 points. She played all 40 minutes at the point and added a pair of assists and steals into the mix.

Abbey Cornelius pulled down seven rebounds including three on the offensive end while leading the Mocs with a game-best three assists.

Chattanooga scored a season-low 52 points while giving up a season-best 61 to the Tide. The Mocs were 20-of-50 (40%) from the field and 50 percent from range, extending their 3-point streak to 719 consecutive games.

The Mocs head to Knoxville next week for the third of its six straight road games to take on the Tennessee Lady Vols. The game is set to tip off at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 6 inside Thompson-Boling Arena.
