Betty Lou Hyatt Norwood, 86, of Cleveland, departed this life peacefully on December 1, 2022, at a local health care facility.

She was born on October 27, 1936, in Lenoir City, Tennessee to the late Jessie Mae Headrick Wilson. Mom was a wonderful Mother and a loving and dedicated wife, daughter, daughter-in-law, sister, friend, and employee. She even was “another mother” to many of my friends. She did all this while being widowed from the love of her life at the age of 38 after only 13 glorious years of marriage.

She grew up in Benton, Tn., and lived in Chicago, for a couple of years in her 20s for work in Injection Molding factory and later moved to Cleveland, and retired from Cleveland Chair Company as one of their most productive seamstresses ever.

She was my rock. The strongest woman and a great example, yet still so loving and sweet. She worked very hard her entire life and made sure that I could go to college, as both she and my father pledged that I would be able to do. She made that possible. I was blessed to have her as long as I did and now, she is in Heaven with the love of her life once again. Praise the Lord. She was a devout and faithful Christian, a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Benton and attended Faith Baptist Church in Cleveland. Betty loved to travel with the BridgeMakers and other like-minded travel groups and enjoyed many outings with her friends. She loved to work in her yard and kept it pristine, was once upon a time a “mall walker” and enjoyed watching the Game Show Network daily. One of her fondest memories was her grand puppy Daisy who she loved with all her heart! She was a strong, independent, feisty, and fun woman. She was “Betty Lou” to many.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Clinton Akins Norwood; siblings, Norval Ray Hyatt, Bobby Franklin Hyatt, and Kay Frances Hyatt Blankenship.

Left to cherish the many memories include her beloved daughter, Elizabeth Diane Norwood.

A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 6, in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home with lay speaker, Bill Blackwell officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.

Family and friends will gather from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, prior to the service at the funeral home.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Avail Senior Living for their compassionate and loving care in addition to the extremely loving caregivers throughout her illness

Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family at www.HigginsFuneral.com.

Arrangements are entrusted to Higgins Funeral Home of Benton.
