Sam Powe '22 and coach Stan Corcoran
At the state meet in Nashville over the weekend of Feb. 11-13, the McCallie Blue Tornado Swimming Team finished second in the state and along the way garnered top recognition for senior Sam Powe and Coach Stan Corcoran.
For the second time in two years, Sam was named TISCA Male Swimmer of the Year. Along the way to receiving that recognition, he placed first and set a state and school record of 46.97 in the 100 Yard Backstroke. He also placed first in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:37.44 automatically qualifying for All- American.
In addition, Coach Corcoran was named Tennessee Male Coach of the Year, the third time in four years to receive that recognition.
The 200 Free Relay team, comprised of Benton Grutter, Max Manolache, Sam Powe, and Marvin Johnson, finished in first place at 1:21.96, a state record, school record, automatic All-American placement.
