Was Many Things To Many People

Beth Kirby

Beth Kirby passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2022.

She leaves behind a daughter, Eulalie, husband, Matthew, mother, Becky, brother, Robert, and sister-in-law, Ruthie.

She was a writer, a photographer, a cook, a stylist, a business coach, a marketer, and a social media influencer. She touched millions of lives all over the world.

She was married to her soulmate Matthew at a quaint little black church in Budir, Snaefellsnes, Iceland; they lived with their little girl Eulalie on Rozanji Dori, Kyoto, Japan. Their first fight was over the quantum world and whether or not “energies” were perceived exogenously or were, in fact, mental realities endemic to consciousness. She lacked a stable center of gravity and often stumbled into things. Luke Skywalker was her first crush (never really got over that one) and had a life-sized cut out of Boba Fett. Flaming Hot Cheetos and a Diet Dr. Pepper was her favorite snack; soup dumplings and “squid wine” from restaurant Tiho at Nijo Station in Kyoto her favorite meal. Her spice cabinet is meticulous. Every article of clothing she owned piled in the corner—clean or otherwise. Her suitcase is currently packed; she had no idea where her passport was. White Bay was her favorite beach, her favorite lobster from the Anegada Reef Hotel, favorite water—clear. She liked to listen to Lou Reed and watch “What Dreams May Come.” She changed her wardrobe every decade and, subsequently, how everyone else dressed. She was unintentionally prolific, dazzlingly talented, gorgeous, brilliant—and the coolest person you’ve ever met (she’d also hate this sentence).

In her heart, she wanted nothing more than a “little family.” She loved her little family. Her dream day: wake up early, make a pot of “morning elixir,” meditate or read some tarot cards, make brekkie for her little girl, kiss her husband on his way out the door, putts around for several hours, organize the pantry, order flowers online, make a bowl of Ochozuke, post it to Instagram, peruse the internet for several hours, make dinner with her family, shuck oysters, open a beautiful bottle of orange wine she doesn’t need to know the name of, read to her little girl a bedtime story, watch a movie in bed with her husband, (censored), and sleep in linen sheets, with a dozen pillows, anxiously waiting to barely make it to the airport, on time, in the morning.

Beth Kirby was many things to many people, but to me, she was just a little girl wanting to eat potato chips in bed while watching endless reruns of Bachelor In Paradise.
