Thoroughly Involved In The Lives Of Her Children, Grandchildren, And Great-Grandchildren

Hazel Mae Curtis Smith, 89, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday, August 9, 2022.

Hazel was born in Stevenson, Alabama, on April 2, 1933, the eldest child of the late George and Ruby Curtis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Walter Smith; daughter, Susan ElaineSmith; granddaughter, Michelle Corder; brothers, Dan, Ed, and Bob Curtis; and sister, Marie Diehl.

She moved with her young family to Chattanooga in 1953. Although she worked at MarMode Hoisery and, then, Dixie Yarns, she still found time to be Class Mother for her children, make hundreds of hot dogs for the Red Bank Band Boosters, and provide transportation and support for all the after school activities her children were involved in. This involvement continued with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After she retired, she enjoyed having more time to spend gardening and continued that hobby at the senior community that became her home 6 ½ years ago.

Hazel is survived by her daughter, Linda (Bob) Corder; son, Kenneth (Donna) Smith; grandsons, Chris (Angelique) Corder; Chad (Leigh) Smith; and Jeremy (Mandi) Smith. She was also blessed with her great-grandchildren, Sarah (Peyton) Prestwood; Kaitlyn and Zach Corder; andTrista, Peyton, Hayden, and Chase Smith.The oldest of ten siblings, she is survived by Tommy (Jenny) Curtis, Mary Morrow, Louise Curtis, Shirley Dodson, Helen Mabe; brothers-in-law,Donald Dupree and Lee (Lois) Smith. She is also survived by her sister-in-law and special friend, Shirley Curtis.

Funeral services to commemorate her life will be held Saturday, Aug. 13, at 12:30 p.m. with Rev. Bob Hopkins officiating.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, Aug. 13, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. prior to the funeral service in the funeral home chapel.

 A graveside service will follow at 2:30 p.m. (EDT) at Price Cemetery, Hollywood, Alabama.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Summit View Senior Community, 825 Runyan Drive, Chattanooga 37405 in Hazel's memory and in recognition of the years of loving care the staff and residents have given her.
