UTC's Guinn Named SoCon Player Of The Week

  • Tuesday, November 28, 2023
Chattanooga women’s basketball standout Jada Guinn continued to rake in recognition for her dominant weekend at the Daytona Beach Classic, as the grad student was named the Southern Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the league on Tuesday.

Guinn is coming off of a weekend in which she came away with MVP honors at the 2023 Daytona Beach Classic in Daytona Beach, Florida, helping to lead Chattanooga to a perfect 2-0 record in the tournament by averaging 22.0 points/game, 7.0 rebounds/game, 2.0 assists/game and 2.0 steals/game.
Of the ten teams in attendance at the tournament this past weekend, UTC finished as one of only two undefeated teams alongside Dayton.

The Oak Ridge, Tennessee, native opened her tournament by dropping a career-high 26 points in UTC’s win over Kent State on Friday, going 11-for-18 from the floor, 3-for-5 from the free throw line and making her lone three-point attempt of the night. Her 26-point outing ranks as the most points scored by a Moc this season, the second-most scored by a SoCon player this season and the most points scored by a SoCon player this week. She would also bring in five boards and tally an assist in the win.

Guinn would then follow this performance up by scoring yet another team-high 18 points in Chattanooga’s win over Northern Kentucky on Saturday, a total that included making a career-high 10 free throws against the Norse. The last time a Moc made 10+ free throws in a single game came back in 2019. Guinn also finished just one rebound shy of a double-double against NKU, grabbing a team-leading and season-best nine. She led the Mocs in the steals department on the night, swiping away four to claim yet another season-high for the grad transfer. Guinn also had three assists in the game.

Guinn has now led the Mocs in scoring in each of the last four games, and she has been a double-digit scorer in all seven of UTC’s games this season. The guard is currently averaging a team-high 17.7 points/game and shooting the ball at a 48-for90 (.533) clip along with averaging 5.0 rebounds/game, 2.4 assists/game and 1.1 steals/game. She currently ranks second in the Southern Conference in scoring, third in field goal percentage, sixth in free throw percentage, 12th in assists and 16th in steals.

Chattanooga returns to action tomorrow night as Guinn and the rest of the Mocs crew will hit the road to take on Kennesaw State (2-3, 0-0 ASUN). Tipoff between the Mocs and the Owls is set for 7 p.m. ET and the game will be available to stream on ESPN+.
