James “Jim” Mavity, 78, went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 14, 2023. He was better known as “Jimmy, Jim, Daddy and Paw Paw”.

He was a lifelong self-proclaimed geek who loved to take things apart, fix them, or make them better. Jim was always available to help his family with whatever they needed worked on. He was a graduate of LaFayette High School and North GA Technical. Afterwards he joined the Alabama National Guard. Later he worked in Huntsville for Redstone Arsenal and many manufacturing plants around Chattanooga where he helped design and repair machinery. Jim had many hobbies including computers, taking lots of pictures (his nickname was “Paw Paw-razzi”), and ocean cruises with his wife.

Jim is the son of the late James and Evelyn Mavity.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years Brenda; daughters, Angie, Cyndi (John) and Sherry (Paul); grandchildren, Scottie (Cheryl), Brandi, Josh, Megan (Scott) Brittney (Dylan), and J.T; and great –granddaughters, Addie, Avaleigh, Alice and Jessica; all of whom he loved beyond words; sister, Wanda (Jerry) and brother Rod (Carol). Jim also leaves behind many extended family members, nieces and nephews.

In accordance with Jim’s wishes, no service will be held.

In lieu of flowers (the whole family, Jim included are allergic) the family asks that you make a donation to St. Jude in his honor. He loved to “Groove with St. Jude” on their cruises.
