Kay Blevins announced on Friday morning she is moving to an evening shift on WDEF TV, Channel 12. Ms. Blevins, a Red Bank High School and UTC graduate with a degree in journalism, began the early morning news show 6 and one half years ago.
Co-host Chip Chapman said he had really enjoyed working with Kay, "We survived COVID together."
Co-host Brad Giese said he had enjoyed their short time working together; "You’ve been so wonderful to me.”
Ms. Blevins said she is staying at News 12, but will be joining anchor Andrew Harrison on the evening news.
Co–anchor Harrison grew up in Chattanooga and graduated from McCallie School.
Station officials said current anchor Emily Cassulo is leaving Channel 12 to take another job out of Chattanooga.
Ms. Blevins said, “It’s been a pleasure to come into your homes in the mornings.”
Veteran Chip Chapman said, “We’ve been through a lot of highs and lows; proud to say probably nobody I’ve gone through those with on a professional basis.”
Mr. Chapman penned a poem, “I was here for your first morning show and your last. You didn’t like working with us so you can kiss your alarm clock and put it in your past. We’ve laughed, we’ve cried, we’ve entertained and informed and when you get tired of working with those night people we’d love to have you and welcome you back home.”
Ms Blevins, a veteran TV anchor from Chattanooga, covered the 2011 tornadoes and did many stories throughout the COVID epidemic.
She is married to Travis Blevins, and the couple has two children.
