Smith Foster
Mr. Smith Foster, age 91, of Dalton, Georgia, passed away on February 21, 2024.
He was born on February 15, 1933, in Dalton, Ga.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ben Foster, and mother, Cora Smith Foster.
Smith Foster owned several textile businesses including Masterpiece Finishers, Precision Finishing and Metro Laminators. After his retirement from the carpet industry, he was an owner in several real estate investments groups. He was very much involved in politics and ran for US Congress and State senate. He served as chairman of the Georgia Ports Authority for two terms, Dalton Trade Center Board, G-CAPP board, Berry College board, Dalton State College board and the board of C&S Bank and was founding board member of Dalton Whitfield Bank. He was a hardworking and dedicated individual who inspired those around him.
Mr. Smith Foster is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Betty Edwards Foster; daughters, Debby (Roger) Peppers and Terrie Tarlton; sons, Michael (Louise) Foster, and Thomas Foster. He is also survived by his 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the caregivers who took care of Mr. Foster, Sharon Silvers, Fadia Bitar, and Frances Lawrence.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Smith Foster will be held on Saturday, Feb. 24, at 11:30 a.m. at the Pleasant Grove Chapel of Julian Peeples Funeral Home, with Pastor Matt Evans officiating. Burial will follow the service at Whitfield Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10 a.m. until the service hour.
