About five years ago, Westview Elementary had a dream of having an inclusive playground. Because of a grant gifted by School Aged Child-Care, the dream has come true.
An inclusive playground is important so that everyone will have access to the play area. This means boys and girls who may have special needs are able to play alongside students who do not have special needs.
Ava is one of the students at Westview. She uses a wheelchair each day. When Ava is at school, she will now be able to enjoy this play area with her friends.
"Ava was the inspiration for Westview adding an inclusive playground," said Debbie Caudle, principal at Westview Elementary. "Therefore, it gives me great pleasure to name our playground after her. Today we are honored to be able to acknowledge the inspiration she has provided.
"The playground is named in Ava's honor, but it belongs to all the students at Westview Elementary. It will be your responsibility to be kind and encourage each other while you play and make new friends."
