WTCI PBS is hosting “Be My Neighbor Day”, a family-friendly community celebration on Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., featuring activities for kids of all ages, and an opportunity to meet PBS KIDS characters. The signature sponsor of the event is BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, with additional support from EPB of Chattanooga, the city of Chattanooga Department of Equity and Community Engagement, Children’s Hospital at Erlanger, Plainview Outdoor Advertising, and Elder’s Ace Hardware.
“So many of us have fond memories of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood and the valuable lessons we learned about what it means to be a kind and caring neighbor," said Bob Culkeen, president and CEO of WTCI PBS. "Those values live on in Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, and we’re pleased to celebrate that spirit of community at our ‘Be My Neighbor Day’ event.
WTCI PBS will partner with a variety of different vendors and community partners to enrich the day's activities. The Chattanooga Public Library, Creative Discovery Museum, Hamilton County Schools, Challenger Learning Center, and Hamilton County Emergency Communications Center are just a few of the partners who will be joining for “Be My Neighbor Day”.
There will be appearances by Daniel Tiger and Lyla from the new PBS KIDS series, “Lyla in the Loop”, as well as a DJ, a petting zoo, face painting, a drum circle with Kofi Mawuko, dance workshops with the Pop-up Project, green screen fun, a touch-a-truck station, inflatables, guest readers for story time, and a Kindness Zone for children to write notes of encouragement in service to others. Stray showers are possible. Feel free to bring an umbrella, but there will be plenty of indoor activities to enjoy.
