After sweeping a second straight Southern Conference weekend of softball, the Chattanooga Mocs swept the SoCon weekly awards. Kailey Snell was named the Player of the Week and Long earned her third Pitcher of the Week honor the league announced today.
Snell batted .900 for the week reaching base nine times in her 10 at bats. She started all three games against East Tennessee at shortstop and was the lead off batter. She drove in three runs and scored six. The Shelbyville, Tenn., senior recorded four stolen bases and had a double.
In the first game Friday, she went 3-for-4 with a stolen base and scored twice.
In the second game, Snell was 3-for-3 with an RBI, scored three runs and tallied two stolen bases. On Sunday, she was again perfect at the plate going 3-for-3 with two RBI and a stolen base.
Long picked up her 11th victory, throwing all six innings in a 9-1 win for Chattanooga over ETSU last Friday. She struck out a career-high 13 batters, also a season-high for the Mocs. She posted a 1.17 ERA, did not walk any batters and allowed just one earned run.
She received the award for a second straight week and third on the year.
Chattanooga is 24-8 on the year and earned its second series sweep beating ETSU 9-1 in six innings Friday and 13-0 in five innings in the second game. On Saturday UTC completed the sweep with a 10-0 run-rule victory over the Bucs.
UTC is currently riding an eight-game winning streak and is 6-0 in SoCon play. The Mocs host Austin Peay Wednesday at Frost Stadium at 5:00 p.m. Tickets are on sale online at GoMocs.com and the Frost Stadium ticket booth prior to each game.
