Top ranked Dalton State got off to a solid start and sit 3rd after the conclusion of Round 1 of the 72nd annual NAIA Men's Golf National Championship at Dalton Golf and Country Club in Dalton on Tuesday.
Leader #2 Keiser (Fla.) (+3, 291) is one-shot clear of #14 St. Thomas (Fla.) (+4, 292) in 2nd. #1 Dalton State (Ga.) and #4 Texas Wesleyan share 3rd at 295 (+7). #6 British Columbia (+11, 299) rounds out the top 5.
Jack Whaley led the Birds and hit red figures at 1-under 71.
He is tied for 3rd, one-shot of the individual lead. Brock Hoover is tied for 22nd after a round of 2-over 74, as Steve Kibare and Trevor Bassett are tied for 32nd at 3-over. Both players carded rounds of 75 on the day.
Jarod Edwards collected the 5th score with a 4-over 76.
Round 2 kicks off Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. for the #1-ranked Roadrunners. They will see the Back 9 first as they tee off hole No. 10.
