Josh Heupel and the rest of Tennessee football's coaching staff continued to roll on the recruiting trail with a Tuesday night commitment from three star defensive lineman, Darrion Smith, out of Maryland.
While Smith is not as highly rated the reports are glowing for his potential growth. His high school coach claims Darrion is the most underrated defensive lineman in this year's entire recruiting class lauding Smith's athleticism, demeanor and focus.
He measures in at only 6'2 and 265 pounds currently so he will need to add plenty of weight and strength to be able to compete on the line in the SEC. Previously a running back who was not interested in playing defensive line, Smith now loves the craft and his coach claims he is 'unblockable'.
Smith's commitment now gives Heupel and company 21 commits for the 2025 class and they are firmly in the top ten in the country in recruiting rankings. While the focus has been on the '25 class, all eyes are now focused on Saturday's decision coming from the 2026 number one player in the country, North Carolina quarterback Faizon Brandon. The Vols have been in the thick of his recruitment throughout the process with many experts seeing Tennessee as the favorite. Can Heupel and company land a third five star quarterback in the last four cycles? We'll find out on Saturday afternoon.
