Greenland Visit - The Better Option

  • Saturday, March 29, 2025

Congratulations to the people of Greenland in their patriotism and resolve in standing firm against the apparent intimidation personified in the Vance family visit recently. The nation of Greenland has every right to oppose any efforts by any nation to invade, dominate or otherwise threaten their right its right to govern itself, albeit at the present it does fall under some control by Denmark.

The Vance family made a better choice in deciding to limit their presence to the Pittuffik Space Base than by forcing themselves on people who had clearly made the choice not to host them. The United States could move from the low-class level of threats and intimidation up to a level of enhanced cooperation with Greenland by offering to expand this base and enhance the defense capability it offers to both Greenland and North America and by compensating Greenland (which is an ally, by the way, not an enemy) for any expanded use of the land and infrastructure. With the cooperative approach, it might be possible to add another strategic installation somewhere in the country.

Working quietly and positively with Greenland also serves not to further provoke Russia who obviously keeps an eye on Greenland and who could easily decide to follow the Trump suggestion about using force to take Greenland. Putin obviously has no qualms about invading and taking countries that are not his.

Playing the bully and using threats is never right. The United States is losing its character and moral courage by entertaining such an idea.
