Chamber Music Showcase, fall 2024
Lee University’s School of Music will present its Chamber Music Showcase on Friday, April 11, at 7:30 p.m. in Squires Recital Hall, located in the Humanities Center on Lee’s campus. The event is co-directed by Lee’s Dr. Doug Warner, director of applied music, and Dr. Gloria Chien, artist-in-residence.
Lee University’s chamber music program focuses on classical music performed by small ensembles. The participating students audition and are placed into duos, trios, and other groupings. Throughout the semester, these ensembles meet with faculty members from Lee’s School of Music each week for coaching and critique. The Chamber Music Showcase highlights the progress the chamber ensembles have made throughout the semester. This semester features a trio and a duo, both student-run.
"Dr. Chien has once again found music for unique combinations of instruments and voice—music that challenges and motivates the students,” said Dr. Warner. “I think audience members will be impressed at the musical maturity and professionalism of our students.”
The two ensembles will include both instrumentalists and vocalists performing works by Hector Berlioz, Carl Maria von Weber, and Anton Arensky. The trio has been coached by Gordon James, instructor of horn, and Dr. Chien. The piano duo has been coached by Amy Wu, instructor of piano, and Dr. Chien.
The student performers in this semester’s ensemble includes Andrew Foster, piano; Taylor Guyton, soprano; Noah Hamilton, horn; Yi-Hsuan Hsieh, piano; and Caleb Kinman, piano.
The concert, which is free, non-ticketed, and open to the public, will also be available for livestream viewing at leeu.live.
