Former UT Lady Vol, Kristen “Ace” Clement, has agreed to terms with the National Women’s Basketball League’s (NWBL) Tennessee Fury for the upcoming 2003 season.
Clement played four years (1998-2001) with the Lady Vols, and was a member of the 1998 National Championship team. She ranks seventh all-time in Lady Vol history with 427 career assists, while sporting a 3.15 assist average per game.
Originally from Philadelphia, Clement broke the all-time high school scoring record set by the great Wilt Chamberlain, with 2,256 points.
Kristen is now a member of the FCA, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and is highly involved in the Knoxville Community. She has become a great role model for the local youth, and her commitment to excellence on and off the court is what made her an obvious choice for the Tennessee Fury, officials said.
“Kristen has had extensive meetings these past few weeks with the NWBL and has asked us to draw up a NWBL Player Agreement to play with the FURY!” stated Ryan McCallum, General Manager for the Fury. “We are thrilled that Kristen will be joining our team. Not only is she a great basketball player, she is a tremendous role model for the thousands of our young NWBL fans! We are glad she can continue her great basketball legacy here in East Tennessee, playing professional women’s basketball with the NWBL’s Tennessee Fury!”
Clement is just one of a handful of former Lady Vols that will be suiting up for the Fury this season. She will be joining Semeka Randall and Shalon Pillow on a team "that has great potential for the upcoming NWBL Tennessee Fury season."
In other Tennessee Fury news, the Fury will hold an open house team practice session event on Saturday, Feb. 1, from 2-4 p.m. at their home court – Maryville College – Cooper Athletic Center located at 502 East Lamar Parkway in Maryville.
