Lee Softball Rallies Twice To Win Doubleheader Wins Over Trevecca

Down twice in both games of a doubleheader, the Lee University softball mounted two comebacks defeating Trevecca Nazarene University 5-3 and 9-3 to sweep the doubleheader. The Lady Flames had a ground slam from Alyson Jarvi to win game one and then had 14 hits in game two to take the win. Lee improved their record to 25-24 overall and 11-19 in Gulf South Conference action. Trevecca fell to 26-17 and 15-17. 
 
The Lady Flames and Trojans will play the final game of the series on Sunday, April 27 at 1 PM.
It will be the final game of the season for Lee.
 
Game 1
 
Trevecca took the lead in the top of the first as they used a double and two sacrifice bunts to take the 1-0 lead. The Trojans added two more runs in the second inning as an error, single, and a walk loaded the bases. Kyleigh Burgett then doubled to drive in two runs and make it 3-0.
 
Lee got a run back in the third. Kaelin Ault got on via a hit by pitch. Then Alexa Scalzo and Ana Macha had back-to-back bunt singles to load the bases. Javaria Smith then delivered a sacrifice fly to score Ault.
 
The final runs of the game came in the bottom of the fifth. Macha got on with a single as did Smith and Bella Galloway. Alyson Jarvi then brought them all home with a grand slam over the left field fence. It was the sixth home run of the season for Jarvi has Lee won the game 5-3.
 
Macha and Jarvi each had two hits in the win for Lee. Burgett had three of the six hits for Trevecca. She also had two RBI for the Trojans. Jarvi had four RBI for Lee.
 
Layne Bailey earned her third win of the season. She came in relief of Natalie Pruitt-Geesey. Bailey threw five and two-thirds innings and gave up three hits while not giving up a run. Pruitt-Geesey started the game and went one and a third innings giving up three runs on three hits.
 
 
Game 2 
 
Trevecca scored in the top of the first inning for the second straight game. They used two hits and took advantage of an error to score two runs. Lee responded in the bottom half of the first with a run. Sczalo and Macha both singled to get on base. They both advanced on wild pitch, then Scalzo scored on a wild pitch. 
 
Lee then tied the game in the bottom of the second. Ava Perkins singled and then stole second base. Nat Toups then doubled to drive Perkins home. The Lady Flames then took the lead in the fourth. Jarvi reached safely via an error to lead off the frame. Hailey Simco then followed that up with a single. Perkins brought them both home with a double and Lee led 4-2.
 
The Lady Flames added three more runs in the fifth inning. Jarvi had a sacrifice fly to score Macha. Sinco then drove home Smith. The final run came from Kadyn Smith in a pinch hit as she singled to score Simco. 
 
Trevecca got one run back in the sixth using two hits and a double steal to give them a third run of the game. In the bottom of the sixth, Macha singled to score Scalzo. Macha was then called out leaving early stealing second base. The final run of the game then came on a solo home run from Javaria Smith. 
 
Madison Barnett earned the win for Lee. She earned her fifth win of the season going six innings giving up seven hits and three runs. Pruitt-Geesey threw one inning to end the game. 
 
Trevecca used 15 different batters in the game but only managed eight hits. Lee splashed around 14 hits. Macha and Simco each had three hits in the win.
