Harmonies will ring out for the 2010 Sacred Sound Fridays season opener at the Ringgold Depot at Depot Street and U.S. 41 Friday, Jan. 8, at 7:30 p.m. in a concert for the Share America Foundation, Inc.
The Southern Sound Quartet from Nashville, guided by talents of lead singer Ben Harris includes baritone Tony Peace, tenor Mike Young, pianist Barry Patrick, and Catoosa’s own Alan Brewster, who sings bass with the group.
“The group has never lost that original focus, even with the change in personnel over the years,” said Mr. Harris. “In fact, Southern Sound Quartet as you see and hear them today, in my opinion, is the best group we have ever had.”
The group annually appears for the National Quartet Convention and the Grand Ole Gospel Reunion. In their latest CD “Through the Years,” the group features favorite requests from its more than 10 years on the road.
“We are expecting a big year,” said Mr. Brewster. “We are going to be spreading into some new areas in the west such as Arizona and California. We are newly with Riversong record label and Old Dominion Talent Agency. There are a lot of good things happening with the group.”
Also performing is the duet Calvary’s Blend featuring Cindy Jones and Bryan Gibson.
Randall Franks, “Officer Randy Goode” from TV’s “In the Heat of the Night” will emcee.
“These talented performers are kicking off another great season of music at the Ringgold Depot,” said Mr. Franks. “We have 10 concerts in the planning for 2010 featuring some fan favorites and some new faces which I am sure will reflect the sights and sounds of the traditional music of our region.”
The event is a fundraiser for the Pearl and Floyd Franks Scholarship Fund. The Share America Foundation, Inc., a Georgia non-profit, presents scholarships to talented musicians who excel in the Appalachian musical arts.
Donations for tickets are $5 for adults and children five and under are free with an adult. Tickets may be purchased locally in advance during business hours at SonShine Christian Books 706 861-7675 in Fort Oglethorpe through Thursday, Jan. 7.
