Gibson, Freddie Lee Sr. (Benton)

Freddie Lee Gibson, Sr., 68, of Benton, TN, passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2013 in a local hospital. 

He worked 43 years for the State of Tennessee and had 28 years in the Tennessee Army National Guard. Freddie was a member and drummer for Mountain View Baptist Church. He loved to fish, hunt and mow. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Troy Gibson; mother, Marie Lewis; sister, Nona Blair Hall; son, Tommy Gibson; and two special brothers-in-law, Dennis Blair and Doyle Smith. 

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 50 years, Mary Swafford Gibson; sons, Dennis Gibson, Lee “Punkin” Gibson and wife Carrie and Joe Johnson; grandchildren, Nick Gibson, Heather Jaramillo, Christopher Gibson and Hayden Gibson; sister, Bernice Smith; brother-in-law, Curtis Hall; and several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Sunday, October 6, at Mountain View Baptist Church with the Reverend Pete Morgan, the Reverend Benny Watson and the Reverend Steven Miller officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Baptist Church Cemetery with Nick Gibson, Chris Gibson, Hector Jaramillo, Jamie Swanson, David Miller, Doug Jackson, Alvin Rutledge, Daryl Smith, David Smith and Dale Smith serving as pall bearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. 

His family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, October 5 at Higgins Funeral Home, who has charge of the arrangements.
