Evelyn Chambers
Evelyn Marie Chambers, 92, a longtime resident of Chattanooga, died on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at her home.
She was the daughter of the late Albert and Adeline Wiegel. She was born in Covington, Ky., on Nov. 11, 1920.
She went to Holy Cross High School in Covington, Ky. She moved to Mobile, Al., in 1948 and worked at the Mobile County Court House 11 years before resigning and moving to Chattanooga, in 1967. She was a member of St. Peter and Paul Basilica and the Women’s Guild. A member of WIBC Bowlers Association, Evelyn was an avid bowler and bowled in league competitions for 38 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Elmer “Mick” Chambers; three sisters, Marcella Emody, Norma Simmons and Peggy Brumback and a grandson, Michael Clark Chambers.
Survivors include two sons, Tim (Nancy) Chambers and Michael (Merrell) Chambers; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at the Basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul with Monsignor George Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Monday , Oct. 7,at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road, East Ridge, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
